Human Fiction

On the rising side of the African continent, the last remnants of the once mighty human species lies forgotten. In the region from which they took their first steps, all that now remains are fragments of memories – collected and saved as an archive by the last of their kind. In a final attempt to preserve the story of their species, they left behind a cautionary tale for future beings who might one day face a similar fate. Human Fiction is a documentary that examines the story of the human species after its own extinction.

Director’s Statement

Some years ago I had the pleasure of spending time with a group of archaeologists in Uganda as they studied early Homo Sapiens behavior in the region. Using artifacts that they discovered, and general accumulated knowledge from previous studies, the archaeologists seemed to piece together the lives of those early beings with ease – filling in the gaps and telling a clear story. It made me wonder how a future being might excavate our own human existence one day – and piece together the remaining fragments of our species after our extinction. What story would that tell?
